I am one of 18 members of the DevOps team, working under Agile values in an Entrepreneurial Operating System environment. I work on internal applications and services, as well as both internal and external websites. I've been able to share some of the concepts I've learned at Daktronics, and I've learned about other concepts that are new to me.

Based in Brookings, South Dakota, Daktronics is the world's leading LED display manufacturer and supplier. I had the opportunity to come on as a student software developer at the Sioux Falls office while still in school. I was able to work full time during the summer of 2017, and part time when school started back up. Being my first software job, I gained a lot of knowledge that I will surely carry with me through my career.
I was a member of the System Automation team. I worked with mentors to develop and maintain our internal, web-based testing and automation tools. I learned about working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology. I quickly caught on to C# and JavaScript programming languages, as well as frameworks like ASP.NET, Nancy, jQuery, MSTest, and more. Additionally, I learned about unit testing and integrated testing. The year I spent at Daktronics was a great kickoff to my career as a software developer.

Pre-Professional Work
Walmart
|
November 2014 - April 2017
|
It was my first semester of college, and I found myself needing a little more spending money. Walmart hired me as a cashier, a position I held for about a year and a half. After cashiering, and performing some duties at the customer service desk, I transferred to the electronics department. This was a very welcome change since electronics is much more in line with my area of expertise. I was able to solve problems for customers, and help them figure out their electronics needs.
Northeast Community College
|
February 2014 - May 2014
|
During the spring semester of my senior year of high school, several students, including me, had the opportunity to take a dual-credit introductory computer programming class. One of the instructors from Northeast Community College came to the high school every day to teach it. He recognized the way I quickly picked up on the concepts, and asked if I would be willing to tutor other students who asked for help. I agreed, and became the official tutor for the class.
Runza
|
March 2012 - July 2014
December 2014 - January 2015 |
I learned a number of skills at my first fast food job. I started out as a cashier, learning about customer service and working under pressure. I eventually got to know more roles in the kitchen area, and during summer break I was able to work morning and afternoon prep shifts. During my last summer at Runza, I was given the responsibility of shift supervisor. I was the sole supervisor of select afternoon and closing shifts, ensuring my co-workers were doing their assigned duties, accounting for the day's revenue, and locking up when leaving. I temporarily left Runza for a few months as I started college, and completed my last few weeks during winter break.
Norfolk Daily News
|
August 2009 - August 2011

For my first job, I delivered newspapers for the Norfolk Daily News. This job taught me responsibility and punctuality. I was responsible for getting papers to the customers by 5 pm, Monday through Saturday. I was held responsible for any damaged papers or papers that didn't make it to the customer.
